It's time

I know I haven't posted anything in awhile. Sorry. Life has been keeping me busy and away from jotting my thoughts down. But I seen something that has energized me like nothing else before. It caused me to have a purpose for this blog, a new purpose. The title of this blog is attack of a nerd. It's about time that I put that name to use.

I would like to begin by saying I am proud to be an American. I wouldn't want to live any where else. I like it here and I don't see me leaving anytime soon. However, there are things that we can do to improve this great country. There are things that need to be said and things that need to be done. Otherwise, this stuff is going to be continued unchecked. And that is exactly what they want. They want to go on and let you think everything is just fine. So they put up a smoke screen and perform their ways behind closed doors.

What am I talking about? Mainly big business in general with their lobbyist at the White House. But the one I really want to talk about is health care insurance companies. Yes, your precious health care. I am in the same boat with those that pay for insurance. Every month I give money to a company in hopes that when I do get sick, they will be there for me. Which may not be the case. I have come to find out that they don't have to cover you. The insurance company can deny you and you are stuck on your own. But you're thinking, "Hey, I pay them every month for coverage. They can't deny me." Yes they can. They will find that loop hole if they can.

So, what do we do if we don't have insurance? I say go on universal health care. Everyone in America gets free insurance. Why not? We trust the government with other free services--police, teachers, postal service. We are supposed to be the greatest country in the world. But yet, some other contries (Great Britian, Canada, Cuba, Germany, France) provide health care coverage to their citizens. Why can't we have it? Oh, yeah, everytime it gets brought up in Congress, the insurance compaines start greasing the pockets of politicians. That's where your monthly payments go. Your money goes to paying off the multi-million dollar salaries of the insurance companies and greasing pockets. It's no wonder why the insurance companies want to deny people. Their money is being used up.

You might be thinking, "Why do you want free health care all of a sudden? Are you in debt? Can't you afford it?"

I care because it's wrong. The system is corrupt. The insurance companies were formed to help people. But the only thing they have accomplished is that they made a few people filthy rich for being corrupt. There is a former CEO for Humana that testified in Congress that she got paid more for denying people coverage. The more claims she denied, the more money Humana paid her. And, no, I am not in debt to any insurance or health care provider and can afford health care coverage. As a matter of fact, the only major operation that I have had in my life was about 3 years ago. I had to have my sholder relocated. And that took a whole 5 minutes to pop it back in. The process before that was a nightmare but just popping it back in took no time.

There is alot more that I could say but for right now I am going to leave it there. I just want you to get to thinking. I want you to ask questions. I want you to find out what is going on around you. Yes, this country is great but we can make it better. How? By standing up for what is right. Our founding fathers did and look what happened. The citizens of this country stood up for what is right during the industrial revolution. They got tired of big business pushing them around and mistreating them. And they bettered their way of life. We need to do that today. We need to stand up to our government and to big business and tell them "We're not going to take it anymore." We need to put them back into check. Or, we can say nothing and do nothing. We can let our kids deal with the problems of today and it will be too late. There might be no stopping anything if we don't act now. And please, leave comments on how you feel or tell me I am wrong. We can discuss whatever. I just want you to think and maybe get involved in some way. Until next time.

Of course I agree with you, but outside of voting for the right people, there's really very little that we can do. The right-wing of American politics loves to use catchy slogans and scary buzz words to demonize programs intended to help us. When you hear the term "Socialized Medicine," you're forced to conjure up all sorts of scary, Socialist demons sent forth to rob you of your freedom! ARGH! Not my freedom!

In actuality, government run health care is an excellent way to help those of us in need. What other system allows you, as a contributor, to get rid of a corrupt CEO. If your current HMO denies you coverage, you have little recourse other than to just complain and eventually die. If the government denies you coverage, you can vote your representatives right out of office and try again.

Of course, most politicians aren't going to be terribly interested in the idea. Now your congressman or congresswoman will have to answer to unpaid medical bills on top of the boneheaded decisions they make on a regular basis.

... and I guess it's just hard to get all of that accomplished in a three day work week.

That is definately a big thing "Socialized Medicine". We need to get passed that. Like I said in the blog, we have socialized eduaction, socialized law enforcement, socialized mail and they are not "evil". Those things actually help us out. Heck, what about welfare. The government gives money out for that as well. That's evil too I suppose. But I think we can do something though. I think with enough people we can get something accomplished. We can turn one or two voices into hundreds, into thousands, into millions and the politicans will have to hear us. They will see that we are serious and we will take a stand and be afraid for once in their lives of losing their jobs if they don't do what the people want. Maybe that is just a fool's dream. But it's a nice one.

I know little about health care other than the fact that I currently don't have any. I also know that I don't want universal health care because that would be one significant step toward full-blown socialism. And I damn sure don't want that.

It's easy to see why the American Left's number one issue these days is socialized health care and medicine. It's an idea that can be easily sold to lots of people. A person could be ultraconservative on everything from the War on Terror to abortion but still be tempted to listen to ideas about "free" healt care.

In reality, universal health care is just an oppurtunity for liberals to get socialism's foot in the door. I'm not saying they don't care about people who don't have health care, just that they don't care any more than anyone else does. When liberals get real indignant and start making documentaries about some issue you bet they're up to something.

As far as Cuba goes, I wouldn't ever use them as a good example. Cuba is ruled by a goofy and oppressive dictator. In addition to socialized health care, Castro has also enacted policies known as "socialized gulags" and "socialized no one leaves the island." We don't want any of that.

Ok, agree or disagree, I've got to admit that the terms "socialized gulags" and "socialized no one leaves the island" are funny.

So, having the government controlling the postal service, police, and teachers is socialism? So, we are already in a socialized government if that is the case.

And I didn't know that Great Britian's form of government is socialism. That's right they aren't. They may have parliment and have a queen but they are pretty much a democratic society. They have free health care. And it seems to me that Great Britian is doing fairly well seeing as that the English pound is more powerful than the U.S. dollar.

And yes, most people think Cuba is evil but at least they care about their citizens enough to give them healthcare. They even gave U.S. citizens that worked 9/11 a free medical examination and prescribed medicines when our own medical facilities turned them away. Now you tell me how that is right.

I think it's ridiculous paying outrageous prices for medicines and operations. What I really want is for the government to control prices of medicines and the cost of doctor visits and such. I want them to get rid of insurance companies. It's not right for someone to get rich off of someone else's pain and misery. We are being taken advantage of because they know we need medicine and service if we do get sick and/or injured. I am not saying that a person can't prosper, take the guy that runs buy.com or the people that run ebay. You don't need the stuff they sell, people go there because they want to. So, you can still prosper off of stuff noone has to have necessarily.

No one should ever be turned away for medicial services. The worst is the medicial industry taking advantage of the elderly. It happens. I see it on a daily basis. They are constantly changing medicines, making them more expensive, and saying they have to have this type of medicine. The reason is this company has made a "new better drug" and is greasing the pockets of doctors. So, the doctors prescribe this medicine and the company prospers. And you can't say it doesn't happen.

And why is a rich person's life more valuable than a poor person's? What good does it do if you save the life of your child only to be kicked out of your home because you can't make rent because of the medical bills? Why should the rich be the only ones to get the best medicine and the best treatment? Why do the rich get richer and the poor die? But that is starting a whole new can of worms.
